8 Bogus Reasons Keeping You From an At Home Workout

Excuses? Who needs 'em?

We’ve all got a seemingly endless supply of excuses for, well, pretty much everything. Having an excuse can often be a simple alternative to putting in the energy required to actually do something… including an at home workout. Your own excuses might be so good that you actually believe them!

at home workoutYou know as well as we do that your excuses are probably keeping you from doing some seriously worthwhile things, including pulling out your yoga mat and streaming a bulldog online class for an at home workout. When you make those excuses, you’re not able to take advantage of all the awesome health benefits of yoga!

Working out at home should help you eliminate a lot of your usual excuses, and we’re going to prove it.

Keep scrolling for eight of the most common excuses we hear from people who aren’t as active as they could be, plus our thoughts on how to bust them.

1. “I’m too lazy to work out.”

at home workoutIf this is the excuse you’ve been using to skip your at home workouts, we have two words for you: come on. And the experts back us up! According to Psychology Today, “being lazy is a negative self-attribution people often make when they don’t understand why they aren’t taking action toward something they want to and/or should be doing.”

To put it simply, calling yourself lazy is something that a lot of people do when they can’t think of another reason not to do something.

You don’t do yourself any favors by slapping the “lazy” label on yourself, especially if it’s keeping you from an otherwise convenient at home workout. Stop using that word and it may change your mindset.

2. “I’ve tried exercise before and it wasn’t for me.”

The exercise or health regimen that you tried previously may not have been your thing, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t another one that could be a better fit. Different things work for different people, which is why we can all be thankful for options! Might we suggest an online yoga workout with bulldog online as the next option you try?

Since bulldog online gives you the opportunity to experience an at home workout, you might find that it works better for your schedule and lifestyle and that it changes your whole perspective on exercise! Plus, you can start with beginner yoga classes and work your way up from there.

3. “I’m tired.”

at home workoutYeah, we’re going to call your bluff on this one.

Yes, it’s true that tiredness is a real thing — and one that many, many people experience. A postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Population Health at NYU Langone told Healthline that “sleep deprivation is a public health issue” and that roughly one-third of the American population doesn’t get the sleep they need.

Still, if we had a quarter for every time we heard someone use their tiredness as an excuse for bailing on an at home power yoga workout, we’d own about a thousand dogs by now.

We feel for you and your exhaustion. But we’d also encourage you to take a reality check. Living life can make you tired, but that’s no reason to sit it out. Plus, a rep from the American Council on Exercise told ACE Fitness that exercise gets your blood to carry more oxygen and nutrients to muscle tissues, which allows your whole bod to produce more energy. Working out with a cardio yoga flow can actually help fight your tiredness! And if you want something a little more low-key, you can go with slow flow yoga in one of our Activate classes!

4. “I’m not coordinated/flexible/athletic.”

It might be a little scary to start making at home workouts a regular part of your schedule if you don’t have a ton of experience with working out. The thing about exercise, though, is that it creates a really awesome positive cycle. The more you do it, the more flexible, stronger, and more confident you’ll feel! (We’re all about that self love.)

An added benefit of an at home workout is that it might help eliminate any insecurities you would feel taking a beginner yoga class in front of other, more experienced people. You can get into the flow all on your own, wherever and whenever you’re most comfortable. Have we mentioned that doing yoga at home is a total game-changer?

5. “There’s just not enough time.”

at home workoutWe’re not about to take your packed schedule for granted or to try to convince you that your days aren’t as chaotic as they feel. Time is precious!

But let’s get real for a minute here: realistically, it’s almost always doable to squeeze just a few minutes out of the day for an at home workout. Starting your day 30 minutes earlier or giving up your usual evening Netflix session will give you the time you need for a bulldog online class.

If exercise is a priority for you, we’re willing to bet there’s a way to make it happen in your schedule… especially if we’re talking about at home workouts!

6. “I can’t take the time away from my family.”

Now that we’ve given you the tools to carve out a little extra time in your schedule, it’s time to remind you that it’s perfectly okay to use that time for yourself and not your loved ones. In fact, it might even be necessary!

You know that thing about placing your own oxygen mask before you help others with theirs? It works the same way with your health routines. When you prioritize your at home workouts, you ensure that you can feel and be the best for your partner, kids, friends, and family members. You’re no good to them if you’re feeling icky and unhappy — and since the American Psychological Association confirms that exercise is good for mood enhancement, it’s time to get movin’.

Seek support from your loved ones in making time in your schedule for at home workouts. It will pay off for them, too!

And when in doubt? Invite your kids to join you for your at home workout!

7. “It’s too late for me to get in shape, anyway.”

Regardless of how old you are, you’re never too old to up your fitness game or to add more strength-building exercises to your routine. You deserve to feel how you want to feel, no matter what stage of life you’re in!

Stop using your age or your kids or your schedule or your current (possibly low) fitness level as an excuse not to give an at home workout a chance.

8. “Working out is no fun.”

at home workoutApparently, we’re just meeting, because if you think that working out can’t be fun, you’ve clearly never done it our way. Try the bulldog brand of exercise! The amazing playlists we use are enough to turn a yoga flow into a party!

Don’t you dare tell us an at home workout can’t be a good time.

Your days of making excuses are over! Pick your first online class and prepare for your best at home workout ever.
