bulldog Gives Back: Special Olympics at Villanova University

When we’re not rockin’ out to great music or getting a good sweat on at the studio, we bulldogs like to stay involved in our Main Line community whenever possible, and we had the opportunity this fall to work with the Healthy Athletes program at Villanova University.

Healthy Athletes was launched by Special Olympics in 1997, and for the past 20 years, the program has been working with Special Olympics athletes to help prepare them for competitions. In addition to providing free health screenings for people with intellectual disabilities nationwide, Healthy Athletes sponsors community events where attendees can get information about hydration, nutrition, and physical activity — plus exercise classes!

In late 2016, bulldog leader Gaby shared her love for yoga at the Special Olympics Fall Festival — an event held on Villanova’s campus in partnership with Healthy Athletes and Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. The guests who participated in Gaby’s partner yoga class and dance circle were a mix of VU student volunteers and children and adults with disabilities. Everyone involved had a fantastic time, and we were honored to share our bulldog love with the Special Olympics community.

Thanks so much to Villanova’s Special Olympics chapter for including us in this event — and best of luck to all of the athletes we met as they tackle the competitions ahead!
